Story
Prostate Cancer, which only affects men, has now been recognised as the third biggest cancer killer in the UK overtaking breast cancer in women. Despite the current statistical evidence and recent high profile cases in the national media, research into this disease and general awareness amongst the male population appears to lag behind. With 1 in 8 white men and 1 in 4 black men predicted to develop this cancer in their lifetime, it is of paramount importance that communities help tackle this problem through earlier diagnosis and treatment. Currently, over 11,000 men are dying each year from this disease, which equates to one man ever 45 minutes.
Bedford has a large and vibrant Afro-Caribbean population and the town prides itself on its cultural diversity. Unfortunately due to the increased likelihood of this demographic group contracting the disease, this campaign will also focus on increasing local awareness of Prostate Cancer through the delivery of a series of fun events and activities. The overall ambition is to increase the number of men referring themselves for screening to help improve their life chances and attract more positive outcomes for their families and friends.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Events
Bedford, UK
By pure chance, I was recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. Men could already be dying of ignorance, because this cancer is one of the least publicised and researched out of the other more common forms of cancer. My aim is to raise awareness and prevent unnecessary suffering
