Firstly thank you for taking the time to read this :)
I don't really know where to start but at the beginning sounds good. My name is Rachael and I am mum to three boys with complex medical needs. Up until eight months ago things were great. I was working as a carer, a job I loved, looking after a wonderful man who unfortunately had terminal cancer. It grew so that I became part of the family. Anyway, when the inevitable happened and he passed away, I was devastated and my health started to decline. I was diagnosed with M.E. It's so much more than just being tired, it is constant exhaustion, like having the flu. It's memory loss and brain fog, and constant joint and muscle pain. I had to leave the career I loved. My boyfriend had to give up work to look after me full time as I am bedbound a lot of the time.
Although things were tough financially we cut back everything we possibly could and got on as best we could.
I am trying currently to get disability benefits but with all the cost cutting it's proved very difficult. I hated applying but I just can't manage. My partner looks after me and my children's health care needs. He takes us to all our various doctors appointments and hospital visits, as well as running our home. It's a full time job all on its own!
Just before Christmas, as is always the way, our car broke down. We live in quite a rural area so a car is very much needed. After much deliberation, including the kids, we agreed to small Christmas presents for the boys and to just not celebrate it this year so we could use what money we had to get mobile again. £270 later..............
Well this morning the car gave out. The head gasket had gone. It's a very old v reg clio and it isn't worth fixing again.
I know more than most how hard times are for family's right now. How much of a struggle it is. If you are in a position to help, it would be amazing. If not thank you for reading!
