Myself and 19 other pupils have been chosen to represent Calderglen High School during a trip to Mountview High in Hanover Park, Cape Town in February 2018 in order to work with disadvantaged children who are surrounded by drugs and violence on a daily basis. School, for them, is one of the very few safe places there is for teenagers. Not only would this trip deepen the connection between Calderglen High and Mountview High but it also allows us to have a unique insight into an other culture, something that we wouldn't have normally had the opportunity to see first hand. In South Africa, children have to pay for their education, so every pupil from Calderglen has already paid for part of a pupils school tuition. We have then made contact with a pupil and will continue to do so until and after we travel.

Since this trip is to be purely self funded, for my part, I am taking part in a cycle around Millport on the 1st October 2017. I would appreciate any contributions given to this page to help fund my way there. Thank You, Rachael xx
