    Story

On March 10th 2018 a friend and I will be walking 25 miles to raise money for so called "untouchable" communities in Nepal. In April I will be visiting Nepal as a school trip. During this trip we will be visiting the communities of people from the dalit ("untouchable") caste in order to see how they live and to help them. The caste system is still a cruel reality in Nepal, with people of the dalit caste being discriminated in many different places. Dalits have been regulated to work based on their caste and in this work they earn less than their non-dalit counterparts. Children of the dalit caste are also oppressed in schools, with this "untouchable" system taught there and dalit students are not taken care of. In public, dalits are denied entry to temples, hotels and even higher caste households among others. During the very severe earthquake in Nepal in April 2015, dalits were denied aid given to people of higher castes.

These points about the lives of dalit caste individuals are the reason I will be taking part on this walk to raise money. The money will be used to help out in some way through their community. Money raised for previous Geography trips at my school has gone towards equipment such as books and other school equipment for a school in South Africa. Any money raised on this page will be much appreciated and allow us to help communities we visit as much as possible.
