    Story

My name is Rachel Kane, I am 26 years old and currently studying to be a Primary School teacher at Durham University. I have been selected as 1 of 5 students who will be travelling to Zambia on July 11th this year to take part in a 6-week outreach program with Volunteer Zambia.

While in Zambia, I will be volunteering with vulnerable children and young people in Lusaka as well as Livingstone. Many of these children are orphaned or living on the streets and are suffering from the effects of HIV, poverty and sexual exploitation. While in Zambia, I will be supporting these children through drama, dance and musical theatre by running daily workshops at Fountain Of Hope shelter and other locations. These workshops provide a safe place for street children while building confidence, creating happy memories and raising awareness of HIV/AIDS.

As many of you know I have always been very passionate about drama and the performing arts and so I am very excited to have the opportunity to use this to support the children of Zambia this summer.

In order to take part in the project I need to raise £2000 to cover the cost of training, travel and equipment needed for the programme. Funds raised will also help to sustain the project in Zambia by funding our work with Zambian charities.

I greatly appreciate any and all support.

If you have any questions or would like further information please contact me.

    Thank you!

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me so far! My bake sale this week raised an additional £55 towards my total which means I currently have £415 of the necessary £500 due today! Any additional support in order to reach this first target would be much appreciated and would bring me to 25% of the total amount! Thanks in advance for your generosity!
