    Story

    Hi everyone,

I’m Chief Executive at Doncaster Children’s Services Trust, providing children’s social care and family support services across the borough. At the Trust we focus on helping children to stay safe, well and to flourish – it’s something I’m passionate about.

Later this month (from the 26 October to 10 November) I will be going on a trip to Nepal to visit a local school in Hangdewa on the slopes of Kanchenjunga. The school educates children who are experiencing poverty on a level I’ve not witnessed before.

It’s hard to imagine from our developed world perspective, a life of such hardship, where families have so little and expect so little in life, except continued hardship. But it is a place where just a little help will go such a long way.

What does the school in Hangdewa do?

The school has been built to give children the opportunity to learn and to have a better future. They may struggle to have enough to eat, they may work in the fields or look after younger children, and they may have ragged clothes, but when they come to school they are given food, uniforms, books and an education.

A little bit of money helps children to make the most of the schooling. These are children who want to learn, want to do well and for whom every day can bring them closer to their dreams and potential. It really doesn’t take much to help turn their lives around and collectively we could make such a difference.

    How can you help?

Donate! Every amount helps and 100% of your donation will go to the school.

Your donation can make a big difference.

The average family income is around £20 to £30 month.

For a child £5 will buy:

    • lunches of rice and vegetables for a month

    • clothes - jumper or t-shirt and trousers and flip-flops. Children usually only have one set of clothes

    • a warm hat, scarf, gloves to keep them warm in winter when temperatures fall below zero

    • buy antibiotics for a child when they are ill
