Story
This February, I am personally joining Engineers Without Borders (EWB) on a Humanitarian Engineering Design Summit to Nepal. I will provide probono engineering support to Nepalese community development engagements. This is together with my ARUP colleagues (London + Sydney + Berlin), university students and EWB facilitation team from Australia. Our combined design summit team will integrate with Nepalese partners to build capacity for their community development.
Our Mission
- Provide probono professional expertise to the Nepalese community and more importantly, learn from them
- To empower individuals to innovatively address their own problems rather than simply distribute money for a solution
- Develop potential project ideas for the communities’ benefit
- Promote and facilitate two-way knowledge sharing #Humanitarian Engineering Thinking
Why I am passionate about this cause
Developing nations face a lot of economic and social inequality. Seen ample evidences of this largely through communities in my home country, India and travels around the world. Nepal for instance while being a fantastic country, is also one among the poorest countries in the world, with about one-quarter of its population living below the poverty line.
Joining the above mission is a tiny step - my little effort to explore first hand on how to support communities with indigenous development.
How you can help
Perhaps you could have a look into visions of organisations such as EWB. Check out more details of Community development works of EWB Australia and check out if community engagement projects are to your interest. Tiny steps that people like you and I take through grass-root level engagements may go a long way in supporting disadvantaged communities.
If you resonate with the cause, you can support the Engineers Without Borders movement by making a donation in whatever capacity you choose. It will also be great if you can spread the word through your networks.
NOTE - The funds raised will go directly towards Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Australia’s community partner work in Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia and India.
PS - International Transfers are possible. You can donate any amount from £2 and upwards on the page, by simply typing in the amount.

6 years agoNepal is full of local heroes. But our super hero of the day is Ram Chandra Thapa, co-founder of Zener Technologies that pioneered 3D printing in Nepal. Barely 25, this passionate young gentleman with the support of Field Ready made 3D printing and prototyping accessible to the Nepalese public. What started with two 3D printers in 2015 is now moving towards sixty for 2018. Thanks to all his hard-work and efforts!!! Check out his work and feel free to connect with him http://zenertech.com/
