    Story

Volunteering in Ravenshead, Blidworth and Rainworth we respond to emergency 999 calls to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service.
Living in the community we can be first on scene to provide life saving medical care and reassurance, and it is nice to have volunteers from the local area to assist you if you are very poorly.
During this year we have done over 400 hours of community based work, which includes workshops at schools and scouts to showcase CPR and First Aid skills to children and adults, we also show community groups the advantages of defibrillators and how they are used.
This year we have funded 2 Community Access Defibrillators in Ravenshead at the cost of £1300 each, to continue this program we need to raise some more funds to look at Rainworth and Blidworth.
Our responder kit is split, our donations purchase the Oxygen Monitors, Defibrillators and bags and East Midlands Ambulance Service supply all the consumable items, we would like to recruit a further Community First responder to cover the Rainworth area as a local resident, which would require £1200, EMAS will supply the training.
We would also like to have a web page so that we can have articles and advice for many people to share, this would cost £30 annually, we have an offer to develop a web site free of charge.

How our responder group work is that we contact EMAS to go on call and during this time we are allocated 999 medical emergencies and respond to them, living in the community means this can take minutes and we can deliver vital emergency care very quickly, this is so important in heart attacks where every minute counts.

We recently attended Kirkby College, to assist EMAS in presenting a First Aid and CPR session to PCSHE students on their Emergency Day, this was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our skills.

Please donate or spread the word, we love helping people around the local area, and being their in your time of need, but we do need your help

Having time to Volunteer as a Community First Responder, give me a great sense of achievement helping my community. I have the chance to get out and meet people who I may not otherwise meet, and to be involved in local groups and clubs.
