Weʼve raised £290 to Help #ToyLikeMe keep advocating the rights of 150 million disabled children worldwide to be represented by the global toy industry.

Funded on Sunday, 10th September 2017

    Story

In 2007 I ran the London Marathon, I was ten year younger, one stone lighter, ten times fitter, and had much more vision than I have today. I wasn't a guide dog user, I wasn't a cane user, I wasn't a mum and #ToyLikeMe wasn't in existence. Times have changed!

Fast forward to 2015 when I had a light bulb moment whilst tidying my kids' toys. I realized that not a single toy had a disability. I googled to see if there was such a thing as toys with disabilities and found that the global toy industry was almost entirely void of any representations of disability yet there are 150 million disabled kids worldwide. What was this teaching them? What was this teaching their peers? The #ToyLikeMe toy box revolution was born!

#ToyLikeMe has since successfully lobbied Lego, Playmobil and Lottie dolls to include disabled children in their products. We have launched toylikeme.org to celebrate all things disabled and toy-ish and we have registered as an official arts and play based not-for-profit!

Now I'm going to run, stagger, crawl the Parallel London 10k on the 3rd of September. I am looking to raise £250 to help continue the work of #ToyLikeMe. Every year we have to find £2000 to pay the for web hosting and maintenance of toylikeme.org and answer hundreds of emails from parents and carers looking for hard to find products.

Whilst I've done a marathon before, this 10k is going to be a different challenge as I will be running with much less vision and with the aid of a white cane. I'm hoping people will get out of my way!

I'm massively grateful for all donations, big or teeny tiny small.

      Update from the Page owner

Thank you so much to all my lovely friends and family for sponsoring me! I raised £290 personally and the team of 10 runners who ran Parallel London for ToyLikeMe raised over £2000 collectively! That's enough to keep toylikeme.org running for another three years!!! I will be running Parallel London again next year and hope some of you might join me! Thank you all again!
