Alfie is 14 and Autistic. He has a passion for the environment, animals and the natural world. A month ago he came home from school and said "I'm going to Kenya for 4 weeks. " ... "ohh", we replied. "Yes, I'm going to help people and children, learn swahili, plant trees and build fences to help keep elephants off the crops and a 5 day trek up Mt Kenya, there's a meeting at school." We attended the meeting, all the positive and negatives were pointed out to Alfie... yes he still wanted to go to Kenya. So we signed up.
To say we as parents are proud of Alfie for even wanting to go and do this is an understatement! The normal daily hum drum of life can be a struggle for Alfie . He has sensory issues with taste, touch, sound and smell. Loud noises can be hard. Meeting new people and making conversation. He doesn't do eye contact... these are but few of the things that make Alfie, Alfie.... But Kenya here he comes... we are doing lots of fund raising as a total of over £4300 will be needed... hes doing cake Sales, raffles, carboots he is even saving every penny from a small paper round he does.
