    Story

    In English (Русский внизу):

In 2004, the non-profit Association of Parents with Disabled Children ("ARDI") opened a rehabilitation centre, the Centre of Independent Life for providing medical treatment for disabled children whose families lack the resources to do so on their own. In addition to medical services by highly qualified specialists, the centre provides a full range of special rehabilitation, pedagogical, correctional, psychological and social services. The centre hosts several creative studios, a sports club, computer classes, and family psychological support to assist the children and their families recover from treatment and continue with life. Transportation services are provided by 2 minibuses and all classes taught are free.

But ARDI currently has only one rehabilitation centre in Almaty with a total area of just 340 sqm. Due to limitations in space and equipment the waiting list for the existing centre is quite long with many children going untreated for years.

In autumn of 2016, a local businessman donated a 750 sqm building/area for a new rehabilitation centre. Renovation works aimed at addressing the needs of children with disabilities are nearing completion. The new Centre will be dedicated to intensive rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy and impaired mobility, and aims to locally implement international best practices in rehabilitation. They will recruit foreign doctors and rehabilitation specialists, and in parallel, train specialists locally in Kazakhstan. This new centre is expected to receive up to 100 children for treatment per day. One rehabilitation course will last 2-3 months for 2-3 times per year depending on the diagnosis. In one year the new rehabilitation centre is expected to help 200-300 children in Kazakhstan.

The goal of this new funding campaign is to help equip this new Centre with modern diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation equipment. Please help us reach more children with disabilities and their families in Kazakhstan.
