    Story

We are raising money to help fund a bereavement suite for the maternity department at Wishaw General Hospital after the fantastic care they have provided to our family upon the loss of our baby girl.

    OUR STORY...

On Wednesday 11th April I went to the maternity triage department at Wishaw general with reduced movement. I expected to come home knowing everything was fine and that I had made a big fuss over nothing. Sadly, we were given the news that they could not find a heartbeat and we had lost our little girl at 32 weeks. I had gone to the hospital alone, a midwife called Sharon held my hand and cried with me until Graham arrived.

I returned to the labour ward 2 days later to be induced. Our beautiful little Ellie Grace was born asleep at 1601 hours on Friday 13th April weighing 3lbs 14oz. Under the care of a phenomenal midwife called Fiona and the other wonderful staff there we had the chance to dress Ellie, hold her, take photographs, read to her and spend as much time with her as we wanted before having to say goodbye.

Graham and I cannot speak highly enough of the amazing maternity staff who did everything in their power to look after us both. Unfortunately they do this with limited resources. Being on the labour ward meant we could hear babies crying at night, whilst we lay in silence knowing we would never hear our baby girl cry. We spent as much time as we wanted with Ellie in the quiet room, but to get there we had to walk through the antenatal ward, hearing other couples happily listening to their babies heartbeats. And that is the part that killed me, recalling the feeling when I was told she had gone every time I walked down that hall.

A proper bereavement suite for the parents of babies who are stillborn is an essential resource in helping grieving families come to terms with their loss as well as making it possible for the midwifery staff to continue the crucial work they do in supporting families like us. Any donation, no matter how small, will help other families survive the trauma of what we have been through. We will update the page with news of any fundraising activities over the next few weeks and months. Every single penny raised will be donated to the hospital.

A huge thank you also goes to our wonderful family and friends. We would not still be standing without your support.

    Much love

    Lucy, Graham and Charlotte xxxxx

A huge thanks to everyone who has helped us raise such a large amount of money. This has gone way beyond what we ever imagined. Ellie may not be on earth with us but she has had such a positive impact on our lives. It is now my ambition to raise a total of £5000 by her first birthday next year. Graham, his brother Neil and his friend Callum will be running 10k in September, please sponsor them via this page. “My girl may not be with me but she keeps me moving forward” ❤️

Why are we crowdfunding? JustGiving pages only allow you to donate the money to a registered charity. Crowdfunding allows you to raise money for any person or cause that you choose. Whilst there are some wonderful charities doing fantastic work for bereaved parents, after our experience at Wishaw we saw first hand the need for a dedicated bereavement suite in the maternity ward. We decided on crowdfunding as the money will go directly to the ward via the Bereavement Endowment Fund rather than being used elsewhere.
