Story
In July 2015, I spent a week in Kigali, Rwanda with the Cred Foundation working at the Catch-up School and this October 2018 I get to return and do it all again!! As part of a team of 10, I will be spending 8 days in Rwanda, split between the school and a juvenile detention centre. We will also be visiting some other projects run by Cred’s local partner project GNPDR (Good News of Peace and Development for Rwanda). This project was established after the 1994 Genocide and is focused on community reconciliation and development , creating positive change in the country. The Catch-Up School itself gives children who used to live on the streets a chance to restart their education and eventually rejoin mainstream schooling.
Like last time, on the trip I will be helping with planning, preparing and delivering a week of fun, creative and educational activities to children and young people in some challenging situations. With the school and detention centre being extremely basic, this includes providing and resourcing all our own equipment/materials in which to use for the week. I am so excited to be returning for another exciting, eye-opening and intense week but I need your help to get me there! My team and I will be staying in basic local accommodation and yes some of the money raised covers this expense/our safety but it also covers equipment necessary to put on this activity week and ultimately to help us make a difference to some great projects. Everything we take gets left behind for their teachers to use, along with fresh ideas and skills. The impact of even the tiniest donation from you is priceless to these children! Plus, anything above and beyond my target goes directly as an extra gift to GNDPR project to continue their amazing work.
Last time I was in Rwanda the children’s favourite activity by far was playing with the parachute, which has made me decide that part of my fundraising this year needs to involve a parachute…. That’s right, I have made the crazy decision to do a skydive…. Now I love travelling on planes, but jumping out of one is slightly terrifying! So please sponsor me to help me make it worthwhile and on August 11th think of me jumping out of a plane (attached to an instructor!) and think of the joy that a simple thing like a parachute can bring to the kids in Rwanda!
Please speak to me to find out more, I could talk forever about how amazing Rwanda and this project is! There are some pics and video below of my trip in 2015. If you’d prefer to help me resource any equipment specifically, rather than just donating money directly, that is great too – I have a long list of things I will need to take! To find out more about The Cred Foundation, who I am travelling with, please visit www.credteamtrips.org or http://www.cred.org.uk. They are committed to transforming lives and developing justice and equality. They are awesome and their team trips are life-changing.
NB: My Rwanda Flights and Skydive are already paid for, your donations will all go towards the trip and resources.
