Story
Rhys was a keen young rugby player at start of his Gosford All Blacks career when an unfortunate series of events following an injury sustained in a local league game caused him to lose his left leg above knee.
Since that life changing injury in April 2019, Rhys has continued his love of rugby by joining his closest wheelchair rugby team, in Berkshire. Unfortunately, as he was a tall, powerful second row, the chairs his club have are too small for him to use comfortably, so in order to continue to keep him involved in rugby, his Gosford All Blacks family are setting out to raise the money to get him a wheelchair that fits.
Any additional funds raised beyond the wheelchair will go towards the GB Wheelchair Rugby and the RFU Injured Players Foundation.
We're holding a fundraising dinner on the 29th Feb, details can be found here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/fundraising-dinner-for-rhys-tickets-94115621357.
Rhys's recovery journey has inspired his old teammates, from the images of his first steps with his first prosthetic to him coming down for season opener and getting stuck in the after game social showing he's still one of the lads. For someone so young (Rhys was just 19 when the injury occurred) to approach such a life changing scenario with the energy he has, has been great to watch.
