Weʼve raised £2,820 to Racketball tournament to help fund stem-cell treatment for Richard Waller, following his back injury

Funded on Sunday, 1st October 2017

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to Richard's fundraising - it's been a great success - apart from the Justgiving page, we have raised another £600 with cash donations on the Racketball day, which means we have far exceeded the £2,00 target! Thanks to the ladies who provide cakes for a cake sale on the day, which raised another £187!

This, combined with other events, arranged by Socrates, Andrew Smith, and Pippa and Richard's daughters, means that nearly £30,000 has been raised for Richard's treatment, ongoing care, and redesigning his house for disabled living!

So once again, thanks to you all!

    Hi all,

As you may know, Richard Waller had a bad accident in January, and is currently in a wheelchair, and having expensive stem cell treatment in Germany to help regain the use of his legs.

As he is self employed, he has no income, and Pippa has taken 6 months off work to act as a full-time carer.

The stem cell treatment will cost £25,000 a go, and his insurance looks like it won’t pay up.

I'm organising a one-day racketball tournament on Saturday 16th September to help raise funds for his treatment. Entry will be £20, and can be made via a donation to this page. It will be a social tournament, and mainly doubles, so that we can get as many people playing as possible!

As Richard is well known through the Squash and Racketball community around Birmingham, it's open to any players who want to join in, not just EPC members.

If you don't want to play, but would still like to help Richard with his ongoing treatment, please make a contribution to this page,

    Many thanks

    Rob Shay

Hi all, and many thanks to all for your overwhelming support! An update for you: Richard has had the first dose of stem cell treatment, and we now need to wait for up to 3 months for any sign of improvement. Meanwhile, Pip and Richard have hired a Thera training bike which he uses on a daily basis, and he also has several private physio and hydro session weekly. He is on a waiting list for any kind of help from the NHS. The fundraising goes on, despite meeting the original target! Thanks again, Rob
