    Story

Six months ago, our 17-year-old granddaughter Lily was hit by a 4x4 vehicle whilst crossing a road in Dubai. She suffered severe life-threatening injuries to her brain, jaw, chest, vertebrae, pelvis and limbs. She was in a coma for three weeks and needed multiple surgeries, a tracheostomy and a PEG feeding tube. Lily survived, thanks to amazing emergency care, a tremendous fighting spirit, and the support of her family and friends, and has since been bravely facing a long and tough road to recovery.

After 5 months in hospital, Lily went home a few weeks ago. She has good range of movement with her left arm, very limited movement (but improving) in her right arm, and no voluntary movement in either of her legs at the moment. She needs two people to help her move from bed to wheelchair or chair to car. Her feeding tube has been removed and she is able to feed herself using her left hand. Lily’s cognition is improving every day, and her speech is improving now that her tracheostomy has been removed.

Lily’s recovery thus far has been nothing short of a miracle and the result of her strong will and a dedicated care team. To aid further recovery, it is vital that she receives ongoing home nursing care, regular essential therapies and access to specialised equipment. Lily’s family simply cannot fully meet these costs and thus we are seeking any offers of support. Your generosity will assist us reach our target of $90,000 towards the first stage of Lily’s care.

    · purchase and modification of a suitable transport vehicle

    · purchase of specific mobility and physiotherapy equipment

    · modifications to the house to accommodate her wheelchair and limited mobility

    · ongoing 24-hour nursing care

    · frequent physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and neuropsychology therapy

Any contribution you can make will help her family cope with this terrible ordeal and be gratefully received. Please help our very determined and deserving granddaughter Lily on her road to recover
