We’re going the distance, to keep Kingsholm connected

Starting on Saturday 10 October, a team of cyclists will begin an epic 4,500 mile ride on static bikes at Roots* (though some hard core nutters will also do road rides!!), with the aim of raising £4,500 towards our community work.

Like many businesses, Roots has had a tough year – and this is particularly painful for us, because Roots is a social enterprise, with community at its heart. As well as serving great coffee and delicious food, we really just want to help make Kingsholm an even better place to be.

As a social enterprise, our purpose is more than profit. Because we have no shareholders, all profits go back into the work. Over the past 6 years we have run a wide variety of social groups, kids and youth activities, classes and courses, work experience placements and more.

The money we raise will help us continue to Cultivate Healthy Community – our aim for the long Covid-affected winter ahead.

We would love to raise £4,500 – that’s £1 a mile. And every penny raised will help to:

• Keep the coffee shop running in a way that’s welcoming, affordable and sustainable.

• Help Roots offer organisations a community hall that’s comfortable and safe, for everything from work meetings to martial arts.

• Develop and run new, covid-safe projects and events to bring the community together – This is part of our #CultivatingHealthyCommunity events, we’ve got lots of ideas, watch this space and look out of the hashtag .
