On 1st September I start my 1,100 mile cycle from Lands End to John O Groats in memory of my wonderful father, Jim Burke, and in the hope of raising funds for the Fleet All Saints Church restoration fund, something that meant so much to him. In June 2015 the Grade 11 listed Church built in 1862 suffered extensive fire damage following an arson attack. It was one of only three churches remaining designed by William Burges and is of huge local importance. To raise much needed funds for the restoration Dad bought a bike in his mid 80's apparently with the intention of doing this iconic long-distance cycle. Although determined and always 'thinking positive' his bike didn't make many trips out of his garage! He passed away two years ago and on the 6th September this year he would have been 90 years old. So, with restoration now underway but funds still needed to complete all the work, I thought it was a fitting time to do the ride for him.
