Weʼve raised £0 to raise awareness about plastic pollution by rowing 2,400 miles from California to Hawaii

    Story

On 2nd June 2018 I will set off from Monterey, California to row non-stop to Hawaii; 2,400 miles across the Pacific Ocean. No motor, no sail, no help.

The challenge will see our crew of 4 women rowing in 2 hour shifts non-stop for 50 days, sleeping no more than 1.5 hours at a time for the duration of the journey... all to raise awareness about plastic pollution, and break a world record in the process.

I am part of Ripple Effect; a crew of 4 women from around the world (UK, USA and Brazil) united by our passion to protect the planet. Between us we have 31 years rowing experience, including on the Brazilian National Team and at Henley, and have completed other adventures such as sailing from South Africa to Senegal and running the Marathon des Sables. Our story will be a drop in the ocean to start a ripple of environmental change.

Urgent action is needed to protect our planet so we're taking a stand in the biggest way we can to bring a human story to the challenges impacting our planet and inspire change. We're doing the hard bit, but we can't do it without your support. Will you join us in the fight against plastic pollution?

By contributing to our cause you will be helping to set up a schools education programme in London, make Wimbledon a plastic-free community and change the plastic behaviours in large corporates such as Fitness First and EY, setting a trend for others to follow. Together, we can make a difference.

The £1,000 will contribute to the £80,000 cost of the row; from purchasing the boat (£34,000) to safety courses (£3,800) and specialist clothing (£5,500) amongst other costs, your support will help us bring a story to plastic pollution which we are using to educate the next generation and set a trend in big businesses.

Our story will be used as a catalyst for a schools education programme, engaging people at a younger age to help reduce our daily impact and start thinking of creative solutions.

We will also be speaking to big businesses to encourage behavioural change - already EY is supporting our journey by reviewing their internal processes and staff engagement, demonstrating to other businesses that change is possible.

Championing a greener future, one stroke at a time.

A heart-felt "THANK YOU" to everyone who has supported our journey, the impact on plastic wouldn't be possible without you.
