    Story

If you are feeling as frustrated and depressed as I am of all the bad news coming from all parts of the world and running out of ideas about how to support and help those in need, a ray of hope has just emerged from Lesvos, Greece. The Office of Displaced Designers (ODD) provide educational opportunities to refugees and migrants who either have a creative background in design or have an interest in learning new design related skills.

ODD is a collaborative skills-sharing and training platform. ODD devises projects with refugees that are relevant to them and their interests. These professional development opportunities help build portfolios, networks and self-esteem. All their projects aim to promote social cohesion in some way and they are also engaging with the local Greek community.

ODD is currently developing a physical space where design can happen. Their office comprises a co-working space and small workshop. They also host complementary programmes in language and computer skills, which are run by volunteers and refugees themselves.

In just 2 months they have engaged over 150 displaced persons through their workshops and classes. While this may seem like a small number, they are engaging those who are often overlooked and underserved.

I am reaching out to you because ODD is short of funds.

This is a unique project that may close down if timely support is not provided. They need our help.

I am aiming to raise £8,000, which would cover their basic expenses for one year. This would include:
    • Office running costs
    • Tools and materials for projects
    • IT equipment and program licenses
    • Costs of sponsoring participants travel to workshops
