Story
On the 22nd and 23rd of September I will be embarking on an epic 100 Mile canoeing adventure down the River Wye from Glasbury to Chepstow. I intend to complete it in 48 hours which will be a great challenge for me as I am used to racing and training much shorter distances. I will start at Glasbury and then paddle 50 miles, camp, wake up early and then do the other 50 to Chepstow the next day.
I will be raising money for the Frimley Park Hospital Genealogical Cancer Unit who looked after Mum so well. The unit is a specialist Ovarian Cancer Unit that provide incredible expertise, support and care for patients and their families. From the moment, Mum was diagnosed in September 2016 we received first class care in every situation we had to face. They work so very hard under great pressure and we always felt that we were their only patients, I really don’t know how they managed to provide that level of care to everyone, they are very special people.
Despite all their efforts the cancer came back very quickly and we lost our dear Muv on the 17th June, she passed peaceful in her beloved Frimley Park where she had volunteered for over 20 years. It feels right that we should keep the fundraising close to Muv’s heart at Frimley and to a unit that doesn’t normally receive much private fundraising.
The fundraising will raise money for training, research and equipment within the unit. The unit is funded by the NHS but private fundraising can make a real different to these areas and allow them to do more outside of the constraints of NHS Budgets.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I appreciate anything that you can give to raise as much funds and awareness as possible for a group of incredible people that work so very hard to make one of the worst situations you can go through a little easier.
I will be providing updates on the planning of the trip and the adventure itself on here and via my Instagram page, @timmylodge so please take a look. I would like to thank British Canoeing for their support in helping me plan the trip as part of their Go Canoeing Challenge, more details of which will follow.
All the Best,
Tim x

5 years agoI will complete the trip in mums memory after Tokyo i promise you that. There is a chance of injury doing a paddle this long and I can't risk that so close to 2020. I am very excited about doing it it's just I need the time to be right. Thanks for all your support, I have extended the page to stay open until then. Tim

5 years agoHello everyone, Apologies for the delay in sending you an update, some of you will have seen my update confirming that there wasn't enough water in the river to do the event. This years training schedule has not allowed me to do a paddle of this length at the time of the year when there is water in the river. I am now focusing on the final push into Tokyo 2020.
