    Story

I am back because i care and want to raise more money for Ollies Army, battling against Battens Disease. Ollie and AmeIia are relatives of a friend so i see good days and bad as they suffer. I want to see the good days even better helping one family make long lasting memories.

This year I will be cycling close to 800 miles, a lot more than I covered last year. This year will include Bay Cycle Route (81 miles), The Trans Pennine Trail (215 miles), Leeds - Liverpool canal (127 miles), Way of the Roses (170 miles), South to North Lake District (119 miles) and Mount Snowden (milege unknown). Unfortunately we can not ride the other two peaks due to cycling restrictions. The bay cycle will be in February, other dates will be confirmed depending on recovery from my knee op. These rides are challenging at the best of times.

Batten Disease; One family, two children, Ollie and Amelia, both diagnosed with Battens Disease.

Currently there is no treatment for Battens Disease, it's always fatal. Children with Battens cannot make an enzyme that is responsible for eliminating waste that builds up in the brain. Over time, children suffer worsening seizures and progressive loss of sight and motor skills. Eventually, children with Battens Disease become blind, tube fed, bedridden and unable to communicate.

Ollie and Amelia, and every other child with Battens Disease deserve the chance of living life to the full.

I am full of mixed emotions when I see photos, videos of Ollie and Amelia. It breaks my heart to see the suffering that they go through caused by the disease and the treatment to try and help them live a better quality life.

If you can, please donate. A penny a pound whatever you can afford it all helps fight Battens Disease.

It’s with deep regret I’ve not been able to do anything this year due to a knee injury. It’s stopped me riding all together, at least for now. Knee is been operated on the 1st June. 6 weeks estimated recovery and then get back to full fitness. Other commitments will mean that I can’t cover the 800 miles for Ollies Army this year. In 2019 I WILL return and do my best for Ollies Army completing the 800 miles suggested and probably add some (just for fun :-) Thank you to those that have donated already, it’s very much appreciated by all. Rob

Just got home from a 56 mile ride, I need to be up to 80 a day to cope with some of the events over the course of a few days. Building up to the first event at the beginning of February. Wish me luck I feel I need it! Thank you to all that have donated, very much appreciated by all. x
