Hello!

My name is Robert Palmer-Fenny, I am 17 years old and an aspiring Jazz musician (Jazz Bass), soon to be moving from sixth form to music college.

I am one of three Jazz musicians from the UK that have been chosen to attend the world renowned Brubeck Institute Jazz Colony in California this August. I am very excited to have this fantastic opportunity to spend a week performing and learning with some of the most talented young musicians in the US.

I am hoping to raise about £2000 towards the cost of this opportunity (both the cost of the course and the flights to and from San Francisco).

I started my musical life on the classical guitar when I was 7 years old, which laid the groundwork for a lot of my bass playing, starting on the electric bass when I was 11. Now I am playing frequently for both the Essex Guitar Group (in its 40th year) and the National Youth Guitar Ensemble.

From the age of 13 I started seriously getting into Jazz music, I was asked to play bass for my college (Double bass and electric bass in both big bands and smaller Jazz bands) and from that point my musical talent was able to grow into what it is now.

Since 2014 I have been attending regular Jazz courses, workshops and playing in jam sessions and gigs both in the UK and elsewhere. Through this I have been able to meet many inspiring musicians and friends.

Whilst I'm currently studying the International Baccalaureate, I hope to start studying at a Music Conservatoire in 2018 and hope to become a professional musician.

The Summer Jazz Colony is a brilliant opportunity for me to be able to further my skills as a musician and meet other incredible, like-minded musicians in America. All donations would be greatly appreciated, no matter the size, so that I can participate in this Jazz Colony.
