£2,000raised of £2,000 target by 78 supporters

Weʼve raised £2,000 to help support families affected by the mudslide in Sierra Leone.

    Freetown, Western Area, Sierra Leone
Funded on Monday, 18th September 2017

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

On 3rd September I will attempt to break the official Guinness World Record for the 'Fastest Half Marathon dressed as a Plant'- a record which currently stands at 1 hour and 30 minutes. I will be making this attempt in Northampton dressed as a sunflower.

I am doing this to raise money for the Sierra Leone Red Cross to help families affected by the recent mudslide in Freetown. This mudslide has had a catastrophic impact on many vulnerable families. As I write 400 people are confirmed dead with a further 600 missing.

As some of you may know I have spent a lot of time in Sierra Leone over the past year, working with the Ministry of Education on a large secondary education project. Sierra Leone is a wonderful country which has had to cope with tragedy after tragedy - a decade of Civil War, the Ebola Virus and now this mudslide. Our office in Freetown is only 5 minutes away from the site of the mudslide so this is a tragedy which has really hit close to home. All money raised through this page will go straight to the Red Cross in Freetown to support their vital work.

    Thank you for your support.

Many thanks to everyone who has donated to the Sierra Leone Red Cross through my Justgiving page- your generosity is very much appreciated. I am pleased to be able to tell you that I broke the World Record on Sunday although only by 14 seconds. I finished the Northampton Half Marathon in the time of 1 hour 29 minutes and 46 seconds. I have now sent in a pack of evidence to Guinness World Records (I had to run with 2 independent witnesses, provide photographic evidence etc.). so I hope to hear shortly that the record is official!

Many thanks to everyone who has donated so far- your generosity is very much appreciated. I am pleased to be able to let you know that my employer, Mott MacDonald, has agreed to match fund every pound that is raised up to the sum of £2,000. This is excellent news and I would like to thank them for their kindness.
