Weʼve raised £1,250 to pay for the purchase of two "There But Not There" 6-foot metal "tommies" to be installed in the Romanby Memorial Garden

Romanby Memorial Garden - North Yorkshire
Funded on Monday, 30th July 2018

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

We are Romanby Parish Council, and we have spent the last 3 years working on the "Romanby Remembers" project, improving the Memorial Garden in the centre of Romanby, with both physical improvements to the Garden, and developing and sharing online resources on our website about the men remembered on our clock tower.

We have had some financial help from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the North East Horticultural Society in this work, and it is all planned to be completed this year, culminating in a re-dedication event at the Memorial on Sunday 1st July, with a family Picnic in The Park event that afternoon. At the Memorial Garden event we shall be re-dedicating the main Memorial, and planting a 50-year time capsule in the centre of the Garden.

To complete the work in the Garden, we are hoping to buy (with our community/residents help) and install (at least) 2 x 6-foot metal "tommies", as part of the "There But Not There" nationwide 2018 installation initiative - powerful symbols of remembrance for casualties of ALL conflicts, past and present.

All money gifted here will be used by the Parish Council to purchase and install our "tommies" on the stone plinth in the smaller grass circle in the Garden. We will also install a community plaque to acknowledge the "tommies" being community funded.

We hope you can support this community initiative - please help us if you can.

    Thank you
