Story
SWOTS-AcTiVe Surviving Winter On The Street
FaceBook Group ; SWOTS Surviving Winter On The Street
I am starting this project in response to incidents of people dying on the street from hypothermia. Although the numbers are relatively small, even one is unacceptable. My project is called SWOTS which stands for Surviving Winter on the Street. I aim to involve volunteers (SWOTS Facebook group members) to distribute life saver Bivvy bags, thermal foil blankets , thermal foil sleeping bags, gloves and socks where needed. This winter is going to be cold, wet winter with temperatures below freezing and so
life threatening for our homeless brothers and sisters who are compelled to rough sleep. Hypothermia sets in when the body temperature drops to below 35 degrees Centigrade. This can easily happen if you are lying on a cold wet pavement or in a cold damp derelict building for a length of time. It is not uncommon for street sleepers to die of cold. Providing waterproof and thermal coverings as well as warm underwear could make the difference to surviving on the street.

I am very sad that this rich society cares so little for those in such great need.

I used to work as a project worker among the homeless community and am very concerned about the rising numbers of rough sleepers who die prematurely from the cold. I am hoping I can involve the wider community in making a small difference to this unacceptable situation.
