Ros and Alex Chase are raising funds for the World Scout Jamboree in 2019.

We have both been fortunate enough to have been selected to participate in the 2019 World Scout Jamboree in North America. As part of the training we need to undertake a series of three challenges, one of which is going to be to climb a live volcano. So, in early August we will be taking a day out from our family holiday to climb Ol Doinyo Lengai, a 2000m volcano (pictured below), which is the only known carbonatite volcano. For the non-Geologists amongst you, this means that the lava once cooled becomes ash like. In terms of climbing it think: walking on deep snow only up a very steep hill; very, very dusty (most people look about 100 by the time they get back down because their hair is caked in light grey/white ash); and coming down is almost as bad as going up! Although we will start our climb during the night, it will also be very hot.
