    Story

The baby rose garden opened in the early 80’s specifically for stillborn and babies who lived a short time. The garden had different colour roses planted for each year. When the roses were in full bloom it was one of the most beautiful places to visit and a place of peace and tranquility for bereaved parents and their families.Sadly the roses were hit by a disease and all died and due to the nature of the disease affecting the soil it is almost impossible for anything to grow there. The garden which is the resting place of almost 1000 babies has become quite umkempt now and changes are being made in the hope we can restore the garden to one of lots of colour again Our group are working closely with the City of Edinburgh Council who own the cemetery The ground now has a covering of plum slate which looks much better but we want to provide beautiful hanging baskets, planters, memory trees, appropriate benches, ceramic roses and memorial, memorial wall It is a big area and is going to take a lot of time, effort and money to achieve the result we want and that is that these precious little ones can rest in a place of beauty that they rightly deserve
