    Story

In Summer 2017, Ross and Kirsty will together, travel 4,545 miles to the outskirts of Ghana in order to take part in a global volunteering opportunity.

Ross and Kirsty will be spending the summer weeks teaching and supporting children in an orphanage, based in Wawase-Twifo Aramakwamoano, Ghana, Africa.

Over the summer, Ross and Kirsty will be responsible for the general support and maintenance of the children and their mandatory needs, as well as offering teaching sessions within the education institution located within the orphanage.

Aswell as general care and maintenance, Ross hopes to deliver classes in boxing and sports, giving the children an insight into an unfamiliar sport. Using his expertise in the sporting environment, Ross will work closely with these children capturing interests and developing both skill and passion amongst the group. The delivery of these classes will support Ross' personal development highly in terms of skill, management and confidence. Kirsty hopes to deliver classes in Dance and English as well as requesting to work closely with the counselling section of the orphanage. Working with older children in her attempt to understand the impact and effect positive upbringing and educational surroundings have on the mental wellbeing of children. Kirsty's focus of this area will support her greatly in developing attributes for her prospective career in teaching.

Ross and Kirsty understand the way of life they currently lead is sacred, and are both aware and understanding of the culture shock they are going to face. The orphanage building itself is far from being rural, the area is in a state of despair. The experience will undoubtably be challenging, both emotionally and practically, however the two are hopeful to fulfill this experience and make it as rewarding, beneficial and memorable as possible.
