Tomorrow, I begin a 6 month mission, aiming to complete one "largish" sporting challenge each month (Tough Mudder, half marathon, Survival of the Fittest, etc), beginning with the Tough Mudder this weekend. All in aid of supporting the ongoing medical costs that are helping 15yr old Louis Wood, walk and talk again.
Just over a year ago, 5th September 2105, Louis, the son of a very dear friend of mine, Parveti, was involved in a life changing accident. He was in the backseat of a car that collided head on with another and whilst the driver and other passenger walked away from the crash, Louis was left fighting for his life.
He suffered three cardiac arrests and was flown by emergency helicopter to hospital, where doctors told Parveti and Adrian not to expect their son to survive, due to the damage he had sustained to his lungs. After 8 hours with the resuscitation team, manually breathing for him, Louis stabilised on a ventilator. The next 48hrs were critical and the chances of survival were still very slim. Louis also suffered three internal brain bleeds and was induced in to a coma for a month. The doctors said at best he would pull through and be in a vegetative state for the rest of his life, learning everything from new as if he were a baby and would never walk again.
11 months on and Loui's recovery has been nothing short of a miracle. He has learnt to eat, walk with a walking frame and said his first words last month. The medical bills in the US are astronomical and not everything is covered by insurance, leaving Par and Adrian liable for the costs. Louis has had many different treatments, but the one credited to helping the most in his recovery is Stem Cell Therapy, which can only be performed once year and is next due in March, this costs $20,000.
The first two years post incident are the most important for the long term recovery prospects, so please help me to help Louis and make sure he gets the treatment he deserves in March.

Afternoon all.... Just a quick update. I completed the Tough Mudder in 2hrs 27mins, would have been quicker but there was a lot of waiting at many of the obstacles. Although from what I gather, people aren't actually too focused on their completion time, just happy to get round the course in one piece. It looks like my next challenge will be the Mens Health 'Survival of the Fittest' which is a 10k obstacle course in the city of Manchester on October 29th. Please spread the word, share and sponsor!! Thanks x
