The Phoenix centre is a unit that helps juveniles suffering with an eating disorder.

Many will not know but a year ago my niece was admitted to the Phoenix centre suffering from Anorexia along with anxiety and depression. She was an inpatient for 8 months which didn't just affect her but the immediate family and close friends.

It's hard being away from family when your struggling with an illness, but our county doesn't have any facilities to help teens with eating disorders. Her illness aside she struggled through the hot weather in the hospital because there was no getting away from the stuffy heat of her bedroom, and for long periods her illnesses confined her to bedroom for many reasons.

We as a family never dreamt that we would ever need to use the help of an eating disorder clinic, but like many illnesses no one ever knows if or when a unit like the Phoenix centre would become an invaluable lifeline. With very experienced and sympathetic staff working very hard to keep our teens safe and aid them in their journey back to a healthy weight to continue their recovery safely at home.

My youngest son 'Jac' alike all my siblings and their children are very close and he struggled when Reigan became ill and was then admitted into hospital, so wanted to give something back to the place that aided Reigan and helped her manage her illness better and infact the place that potentially saved her life.

He has been growing his hair for 5 months and on the last evening before breaking up for the summer will have his hair shaved off at an event at his current primary school to raise enough money to purchase some electric fans for the patients room as a thank you.
