On 25/08/16 my son was born via emergency Caesarian section at Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth, a month before his due date. A routine scan was carried out 2 days prior which raised the concerns of Health Professionals. My son, Sam Rhys had stopped growing considerably since his last scan and it was clear that he was unhappy. I was admitted to hospital and was under close observations whilst having steroid injections to help develop his lungs, then the decision was made to take me to surgery for his birth. During this operation it was established that my placenta had completely shattered and that Sam was not feeding inside me, hence why he had stopped growing, it was uncertain how long this had been for, however it could not have happened for much longer. We were deprived of our first skin to skin contact as a team of paediatric health professionals immediately took him into their care and he was placed in the incubator for many hours after. Sam is now thriving and is soon approaching his 1st birthday. The care we received at Bronglais Hospital was outstanding and we will be forever in their debt...

Also I would like to mention Meurig ward also where my childhood friend Iona received treatment for her cancer. at the age of 33 iona received the devastating news that she has breast cancer which was also in her lymph nodes. Having received the operation to remove the cancer, iona has since fully recovered from the gruelling chemotherapy and radiotherapy and has now returned to full time employment as a primary school teacher. The care she received at this life changing time was second to none and to have this service on our doorsteps made life a lot easier for iona and her family.
