In the UK there are over 13,000 people subject to human trafficking and modern day slavery. Slavery is an appalling thing which we associate with the past, however for many people it is a current and vital issue to address.

As I'm coming up to my bar mitzvah I've been learning about this, and feel I want to help to make a difference to this situation. I found out about the charity René Cassin, named after a French Jew who co-wrote the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. They raise awareness of all Human Rights through education and campaigning, and by lobbying the UK government to take action against violations around the world and at home.

In solidarity with their campaigns about Human Rights I've taken part in several social action projects. I help out at an old age home, playing piano to entertain the residents. I helped to raise money and get people to donate food to a food bank over Christmas. I've walked the two and a half hours very early one morning, to my school, to relate to children who need to walk that far every day to get to school. I have cooked food for the homeless shelter at my synagogue and written letters to MPs in London, lobbying them to take action for human rights and against modern day slavery.

Please help me try to reach my target, so that René Cassin can continue with their important work.
