Story
'Our message is simple: We stand side by side with everybody that's involved, specifically the children, letting them know that they're important and that happiness matters, and that their sense of self matters. We're going to get to as many of these children as possible, and make them laugh, and make them feel loved.'

Since 2007, the amazing Flying Seagull Project has been travelling the globe with a simple yet unbelievably inspiring mission - to bring smiles and laughter to corners of the world where they are needed most. They have worked from the UK and mainland Europe to Ghana, Cambodia and India - in orphanages, hospitals and most recently refugee camps, where they have brought their 'Happiness Matters' project.
Last summer I spent two weeks in the Epirus province of northern Greece, and worked in refugee camps and community centres. This year I will be travelling to Lebanon, where we will work with both the refugee and local communities. The project began a week ago and has so far seen the team perform to and meet hundreds of children - almost 1,000 - every day. For updates on the project's work, follow The Flying Seagull Project on Facebook.
I will go to a project base just outside Beirut, and volunteer there for two weeks, guided and led by amazing Flying Seagulls who have already given much more of their time than I am able to, and who will continue to do so until this crisis passes. We've all been through a training course in London, and we will be bringing our diverse skills to a range of performances, games, workshops and a thousand other tiny interactions, all with one goal: laughter. I've been very lucky in my work to share a lot of that with kids in different countries before, but nowhere quite like this. I feel inspired, proud and honestly a bit nervous about the challenge!
To play my small part, I am asking for your help to raise the sum of £450. £221 will cover my travel to and from Beirut, and £23 will pay for my travel insurance. The rest will go towards the many running costs of the project, helping others to stay and continue this labour of love after I have to leave. In addition, I will make a personal donation to cover the small fees charged by justgiving, so every penny you donate will directly help the project.
