The situation now for asylum seekers in Greece is critical.
The EU funds Greece to contain the situation, "warehouse' asylum seekers and prevent an overspill across European borders.
Prior to interview the only legal advise available to claimants is provided by lawyers working pro bono and is organised by voluntary groups and NGOs.
Advise prior to the claim being assessed is not funded and therefore claimants are ill prepared for interview.
I am accompanying a UK refugee lawyer and professional interpreter who are volunteering for 'Advocates Abroad'.They will prepare people for their asylum interviews and attend with them.
Over time I intend to produce a body of work which will represent issues arising from this global refugee crisis and the legal hurdles that asylum seekers must navigate.
On this trip I will consolidate the contacts that I have made with NGO's based in Greece, establish relationships with individual asylum seekers and begin the process of photographing and collecting stories.
In the short term a bank of images will be created to be drawn on by organisations working with refugees for publicity and training purposes.
