My name is Eilis Fitzgerald, I am planning on doing the Great North Swim in June this year, to raise money to help me attend the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, the USA in 2019.

I feel lucky to have passed the rigorous selection process to attend the Jamboree , a camp which 36,000 scouts from over 200 countries will attend.

This is a great opportunity and I hope to develop my leadership and life skills and take part in activities from scuba diving to archery to BMX and meet lots of new people.

To get there I need to raise £3620. I know it’s a lot but this will be for me to attend and also will pay for scouts from more disadvantaged countries to attend.

I have already been busy with cake baking, tombola’s, and selling Christmas quizzes, but still have a long way to go!

My training starts now - hope the water warms up soon!!!
