    Story

St Martins School, Kibagare Slum, Nairobi.

We have sponsored for the last 2 years, 2 school girls who attend a school in Kibagare, a slum which houses 80,000 on the outskirts of Nairobi, Africa. I´ve never been into a slum, infact it was my first visit to Africa. Everything you see on the TV is true, but walking through the "streets", seeing the people, how they are forced to live, the extreme poverty, the lack of basic needs, water, sanitation, houses, electricity; well this is heart breaking. In the middle of this slum is a school, with 1000 students, 700 hundred primary school children and 300 secondary school girls who are boarders. The school offers hope, sanctuary, a chance for young people who might otherwise end up in the vicious circle of poverty, drugs, violence and illness. Being a women is hard in this area. It become apparent that any chance of education is a chance to be able to break free from slum life. I fell in love with the kind heartedness of the school staff and nuns. I fell in love with these amazing children that, inspite of much suffering, are affectionate, inquisitive, happy and fun to be around. What do they need? Everything. They have nothing. It´s as simple as that. So, I have a great life, I´m lucky and I want for nothing. There is nothing that would make me happier than being able to donate money to St Martins. They feed 2000 of the slums children 3 saturdays per month also, and they receive no state funding. If you were thinking of buying me a present, then please don´t!!! Make a donation instead. We work directly with the school, the money goes directly to them, no middle man or organisation. In 2019 I will be going back in February and June to continue working and supporting. We now sponsor 3 more primary school children. They all deserve a chance.

I am about to hit the half century mark. I´m happy and to be honest, want for nothing. Having returned this summer from my first trip to Kibagare, a slum which is home to 80,000 people and also to St Martins School. I was and am humbled by seeing how people are forced to live.
