Satendra was born in an under-privileged family in the year 1987 in a small village of district Bhind in Madhya Pradesh. 15 days after his birth, Satendra was infected with Pneumonia. Improper medical care and reaction to medicines led to disability in both his legs. His parents fought financial crisis to get him a primary education in the village.

During his school days, Satendra had developed a keen interest for swimming. He practised swimming in the local river flowing through the village for hours. His determination to find opportunities in swimming grew with the villagers’ discouragement.

However, the champion swimmer didn't lose hope and left his imprint on swimming.

Whatever little he earns as a clerk with Commercial Tax Department in Indore, Satendra invests in his practice.

Vikram awardee Satendra Singh made history in June 2018 by completing a swim across the English Channel in 12 hours and 26 minutes. Satendra completed the swim along with three other para swimmers, making them the first relay team of four para swimmers to cross the Channel successfully.

Satendra expresses gratitude towards Mr P Narahari, Commissioner, Department Of Public Relations, Government of Madhya Pradesh who helped him realise his English Channel dream.

Currently he is training in Dover, aiming to cross Channel solo in August. He is also eyeing Para Games in Jakarta in 2018 and 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games,
