Story

I'm hoping anyone can help.
Our beloved family puppy Rocket, a cardigan corgi has developed quite an uncommon illness called Chylothorax.
Simply put, chyde (lymphatic fluid containing protein, white blood cells and vitamins) leaks into his thoratic cavity where his heart and lungs are.

On attending the vets due to him struggling to breathe resulted in over a litre of fatty fluid being drained and his lungs had been compressed to less than a quarter of their size.

He hid it well, still showing us affection and life but we could tell when he started to struggle on walks something was wrong and then his breathing became short.

Having it drained involved over 2 hours of treatment but has eased things for now and his lung capacity has increased again.. but it's not a cure nor can keep being repeated.

We have already spent a lot on xrays, inversion and fluid draining but the next step would be surgery- thoratic duct ligation. The surgery has an 80- 100% success rate but unfortunately costs between £5000- £6000.

Rocket is loved by many and is a great advocate for the lesser popular Cardigan Corgi breed compared the the more well known Pembroke. We always get approached when out and about and gives us chance to talk about the breed...plus he gets lots of cuddles too!

He's so young and I'm not willing to have him put to sleep simply because the treatment is so costly. He has so much love to give.

We're going to try and do whatever we can for the surgery plus additional treatment costs I'm hoping others are willing to help lead his full life with his family and anyone who he meets along the way.

Anything you can spare could make a huge difference. From both Rocket and his family, thank you for taking the time to read this.

It's been a while with a few expensive drains during this but Rocket isnt getting better :( He's currently propping his head up next to me to try and breath and I can see he's struggling :( He is having the operation tomorrow- to tie the thorasic duct before it reaches his chest and removing his heart lining to try and reduce any pressure. It's a big operation. I'm praying it goes smoothly. We don't have much choice but to try and get a loan while he's in for 72hours. Op's around £5k but we just want our happy loving dog back. X

Cont. - hes been rushed back to the animal hospital once more today - anesthetized and had a litre of fluid drained again from his chest. The has also had more blood tests, cholesterol check and some fluid has been sent to the lab for testing. We're devastated that what we hoped was a bad memory has reared up again - it's currently difficult to tell if the diet he was on made any difference or if this was the result of a continued slow leak. However we still intend to do all we can to fight for him and hopefully get past this once and for all.

Update- sorry for the lack of updates on here, we've kind of been in a slight limbo state after all his last treatment and drains - he seemed to have improved massively and we've just been basically waiting to see what happened in a way. We have been monitoring his breathing rate each day, and slowly attempting to wean him of his low fat/ rutin diet to try and encourage a little weight on him. His breathing has fluctuated a bit bit unfortunately just over this weekend it turned very laboured, short breaths with him tilting up his head..cont.
