Birds (and wildlife in general) is in steep decline. Even our most common, well-loved birds like Sparrows are now vanishing. For example, since 1977, we've lost 21.4 million House Sparrows. I want to do my bit by helping the birds around my home, by making and installing birdboxes in my local precinct, (Portchester Precinct).

They'd be made out of reclaimed wood, that'd otherwise go to landfill or get washed out to sea, so I'd be fighting pollution and helping local wildlife simultaneously (killing two birds with one stone! although that might not be the best metaphor to use here). And they'd be installed on some of the many shops in the precinct, providing a safe home in a very urban environment.

I feel like this is very important, and I for one would hate to see our lovely garden birds decline anymore than they currently have, especially in this day and age where we're having to spend more time at home/inside due to Covid-19, they often provide a link with the outside world.

The money raised here would go straight into getting enough materials (screws, tacks, roofing felt etc.) to make the birdboxes, with one birdbox costing me on average only £2.50 to make. If we reach the target, we could put 40 nestboxes up, enough for the entire precinct!
