Story
😨😰😨😰😨😰😥😰😨😥😥😢😭😭
Imagine the inability to scratch an itch, the inability to shift position in a chair or bed, the inability to take a walk over different types of terrain, and the inability to live in your current environment.
SHORT STORY:
I have struggled with locked-in syndrome for the past 11 years, with four of those years spent in rehabilitation centers and the remaining seven years at my home in Kingsbridge. However, my current landlord has decided to sell the property, which means that I may have to move to a council-provided home in a different location.
This potential move is causing significant stress and anxiety for me. Not only would I lose most of my staff and equipment, but I would also lose the supportive community that has helped me and my charity thrive. The thought of rebuilding my life in a new location and facing the challenges of living with locked-in syndrome is overwhelming and potentially devastating for my mental health.
The past 11 years have been a difficult journey, and the thought of starting over in a new location is overwhelming. The challenges and struggles of living with locked-in syndrome are already immense, and the added stress of a forced move could push my mental health to a breaking point.
Eyes crossed this isnt my last year in here.🕊️❤
LONG STORY:
On October 31, 2011, I was a healthy and active 16-year-old living with my family in West Alvington, near Kingsbridge, Devon. I was a student at Kingsbridge Community College and also worked part-time at a local pizza place. However, my life changed dramatically when I suffered a sudden and severe stroke that left me with locked-in syndrome. This condition has had a significant impact on my life and that of my family.
Locked-in syndrome is a condition that affects my ability to move and communicate. Despite having normal cognitive function and thought processes, I am unable to move or speak due to paralysis of most of my voluntary muscles. However, I am able to communicate through eye movements and blinking.
On March 10, 2015, a couple offered to buy me a house in my hometown of Kingsbridge and had it fully adapted to meet my needs. This was a very happy moment for me, as it allowed me to leave a rehabilitation center and return home. ☺
On March 25, 2021, I stopped looking for the right care provider and decided to handle my own care through private funding and called my team Wicks Enterprise. I wanted more control and better understanding of my care, and I felt that going private would give me that.
In October 2022, I was able to assemble a full team of nine people who are happy, hardworking, and work well together. As the new year approaches, I am excited to focus on my recovery and feel confident and secure with my own team in place. I am looking forward to a successful and fulfilling year in 2023.
Then this came in the post...
"You must vacate the property by February the 9th"
OMG!! 😱
My landlord has kindly extended the notice.
I appreciate this fundraiser has come at the wrong time of the year but I have very little time left. Please help me and give generously, Me, Mufasa and my staff will really appreciate it.💔🥺

1 year agoMeet Mufasa, Mufasa is my beloved maine coon cat who has been a part of my life since he was a kitten in 2016. He is very attached to our home and the clear runway he has to run through the house, the space he has to play and explore, and the garden that he considers his own personal jungle. He has a massive tower bed that he loves, and he has always known this place as his home. I can't imagine causing him any distress by moving him to a new location, and the thought of seeing him upset breaks my heart. 💔😿

1 year agoThis is my garden. The patio area at the bottom is where I can go to. The grasslands are used mainly by my cat Mufasa to roam around and my niece and nephew 🌴 I spend a lot of time in my garden in the summer, bbqs, gatherings and partys. 🍁🥳

1 year agoThis is my corridor between the lounge area and bedroom. In between are my staff bedroom and staff bathroom and a few room cupboards. 🧣 The doors are widened for me so I can fit through easier.
