Story
We need help from all of you to help us buy the rearing milk we use to feed the many baby hedgehogs (hoglets) we get every summer & autumn.
Hoglets are admitted to our centre anywhere between mid June - late October. One of the main reasons for this include being abandoned by their Mum, which typically occurs because gardening activity such as strimming, mowing, and general maintenance causes disturbance. Once disturbed, the Mum will leave her hoglets, regardless of how old they are. This results in sometimes 2-3 day old hogs being left.
These guys can weigh as little as 20g. They need constant and stable warmth, in addition to being hand-fed every 2 hours with Esbilac milk. Every year, Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue rears and releases hundreds of hogs. With the population of hedgehogs in the UK having rapidly declined within the past 20-30 years, it can be safe to assume that we are helping the local population in and around Glasgow/Ayshire to thrive.
Its already extremely busy at the Centre with many litters of hoglets, and we are getting through 1 tub of Esbilac within 1 week, as these guys guzzle it down! At £60 a tub, raising £300 would allow us to purchase 5 tubs. Please help us and donate as much as you can, every little helps.
Thank you!
