Story
Freddie came into rescue in November 2017 as he has severe guarding issues around food and his bed - however for 96% of the time he is a normal, fun loving Labrador that just adores people and fuss. He has been homed twice but on both occasions was returned to us as the new owners felt unable to cope with his behaviour in the home. Like many rescue dogs every time they are returned they come back with more baggage and issues and each time Freddie came back to us he was a little more scared. With this in mind we have decided to offer him sanctuary at K9focus rescue and have built a special kennel for him which he loves and where he has his own area and his guarding issues are manageable. During his time with us his guarding has become less and less as his confidence has grown and out of the kennels he is almost the perfect dog. Freddie has his own special fundraising duties and is a particular favourite with the children helping us to raise much needed funds.
It was obvious to us very early on that Freddie had quite a strange stance and investigations have shown that he has both hip and elbow dysplasia although this is quite mild and manageable with controlled exercise. Sadly however Freddie has recently become very lame and further trips to the vets have identified that he has now torn his cruciate ligament which sadly is quite common in the breed. This will need surgery to repair for which the cost is likely to be in excess of £3,500.
Freddie is only 3 years old and so has a full life in front of him and with his fund raising activities will undoubtedly pay the rescue back in spades. However we do not currently have the funds to cover this and so we are asking you if you can help us raise the money to secure Freddie's future. Any amount will help. We think this boy deserves a chance so please dig deep and help us bring Freddie back to full fitness so he can resume his fundraising activities for us and of course do what he enjoys most - chasing a ball.

6 years agoFollowing further investigation it has been established that Freddie has hip dysplasia rather than a cruciate problem. The recommendation is not to operate but to manage it via controlled exercise & medication. We would like to thank everyone that has donated and are asking if you would like a refund as the situation is different or if you are happy for your donation to be ringfenced for his future medication. Please email me at Lynne@k9focus.co.uk If you would like a refund. Thank you all again . Lxx
