Story
Over the last 18 months our Cadets have been restricted in accessing many activities which are usually provided by the Sea Cadet Corps. I would like to raise sufficient funds to acquire additional equipment so the cadets can have access to the amazing rage of activities and experiences that Sea Cadets offer.
To achieve this goal, I will be undertaking in several outdoor adventurous activity challenges including long distance paddles, cycles and walks, like the skills and activities cadets provide young people across the area.
My first challenge will be to paddle in a kayak from Barcombe Mills; just north of Lewes, down the river Ouse and finishing the trip at the mouth of the river in Newhaven. This paddle is 15 miles and will take around 10 hours in total. Paddle sport is one of many water-based actives offered to Sea Cadets across the UK and teaches water confidence, fitness and in cadets there is an opportunity to progress through the nationally recognised syllabus. This challenge is arranged to take place on the 24th of October 2021.
My second challenge will be a navigation task of hiking over the south downs starting in Rye and ending in Hove, to cover all of Sussex District Sea Cadets by visiting each unit along the way, this walk will be over 50 miles and span the course of two days. This challenge will also incorporate campcraft skills such as setting up and packing down a campsite and cooking using a camping stove. these are all skills that are taught to cadets as part of the campcraft syllabus. This is currently scheduled to happen on the 20th and 21st of November 2021.
My final and biggest challenge will be a cycling event starting from Eastbourne Sea Cadets and ending in Paris, France. This cycle will also incorporate a visit to Dieppe, the site of a crucial allied landing in the Second World War. another visit to the Somme, Thiepval memorial to commemorate the First World War, and ending at the Eiffel Tower in the centre of Paris. this trip will be over 280 miles in length and take almost 3 days to complete, it is scheduled to take place in March/April 2022.
