In 2016 I was admitted to A&E with severe pain in my abdomen. I had a tumour in my womb. The tumour was removed and then I was taken back in to have a complete hysterectomy. At this point pathology confirmed that I had a rare, aggressive form of cancer called leiomyosarcoma, but as they had been able to remove it surgically I was in remission. I had regular oncology appointments. In January 2018 I had what I thought was a chest infection for a couple of days and then felt ok. This happened again in February and in March 2018 I was sent for an urgent CT scan. The cancer had returned to my lungs and abdomen and unfortunately it couldn’t be surgically removed. I have stage 4 terminal cancer and was told I had months to live. I am undergoing chemotherapy & immunotherapy in the hope that it may stabilise the cancer or even better shrink it slightly as this will buy me more time, but ultimately I can’t be cured and as such I am trying to come to terms with this and spend as much time as possible with my two sons (Kieran 15 & Zach 13) and my wife Fiona, and create lots of memories for them when I’m feeling well.

I recently married Fiona, but it wasn’t the wedding we had planned, we brought it forward and had a quick registry office ceremony but nonetheless it was an amazing day full of laughter and happiness. Fiona is my strength when I’m down and takes care of me when I’m not well.
