    Story

Firstly thank you for taking the time to read our story, & Thank you to everyone who has help so far in our fundraising.

The page was set up by a wonderful friends of ours, we are forever grateful to them, in particular thanks to Shauna who continued to help us with this fundraising page-

Thank you for being so special and helping us, follow our dream in one day being Mummy & Daddy

    So here’s our story

In 2002 Anthony & cathryn met in Archbishop McGrath Catholic comprehensive school.

where they became Friends. By 2003, Cathryn had moved to a Boarding school whilst Anthony remained in Archbishop McGrath. In 2007 cathryn re-enrolled back in to Archbishop to continue her studies in Sixth form.

2010 Anthony was already working in the Royal Navy & Cathryn was studying at University, for her career in the Ambulance Service.

By 2010 the couple had already known each other for the best part of 8 years & at this stage had starting courting each other.

Little in to the relationship it was realised that starting their own family would be difficult due to a diagnoses of Poly cystic Ovarian syndrome but it was something both cathryn & Anthony wanted- their own family with lots of love to give.

So this is where their Long Fertility journey started-

They were told by the GP to keep trying for a minimum of 2 years and without fail would be referred to a specialist. In 2013 Cathryn & Anthony were referred to the Hospital where cathryn had a Lap & Dye test to make sure her Fallopian tubes were not blocked which they weren't, and during this procedure cathryn also had her Ovaries drilled to encourage natural conception, With no luck after this procedure the couple were referred back to the specialist where they would commence fertility drugs, Called Clomid, each month with extensive monitoring, scans blood tests, the hope of having a family slipped away as the treatment did not work,at this stage, cathryn suffered with a condition called ovarian Hyper stimulation where it causes fluid build up, this treatment continued for 11 months and the couple were loosing hope of having their own family.

Cathryn & Anthony then were referred to another specialist hospital where we again had to have scans and bloods, and to loose weight to reach a BMI suitable for IVF ICIS .

After 3 years we finally made it and reached the target for BMI.

The couple had their first cycle of IVF in may 2016 and got a positive pregnancy test. They were delighted that finally they were going to have a family they so, so wanted.

The pregnancy continued with complications such as of cysts from Polycystic ovarian syndorme, threatening to twist an ovary and leave a potential for surgery to remove the ovary- fortunately the condition was rectified . A diagnosis of diabetes went undetected, & in the June cathryn developed a pulmonary embolism in the lung, and had to have blood thinners at week 14.

week 16 developed pains started, and the couple were told the pregnancy would more than likely becoming to an end.

Cathryn Spent 2 weeks in labour fighting the pain, loosing a substantial amount of blood, and Sadly 18 weeks their First child was born, with a heart beat. Twmp-Seren 20/09/2016. - sadly instead of making memories Cathryn & Anthony had to lay their first baby to rest.

Some weeks later we received a phone call and letter detailing the Postmortem results, was A diagnoses called incompetent cervix.

3 months later Cathryn & Anthony found the courage to try again, another round of drugs to assist the IVFICSI. But unfortunately this time was not to be.

The couple were so desperate to have a family they picked themselves up and found the strength to try again.

3 months later another round of IVF ICSI, many rounds of drugs, which includes an endometrial scratch this time, and extra sedation due to a difficult cervix ,and again had another positive pregnancy test, they were both delighted although petrified to say the least, cathryn was referred to the Early pregnancy unit for early on due to complications again, but the staff looked closely at the pregnancy which seemed to be progressing normally. As the last pregnancy Cathryn is a carrier for Group B Strep, which would involve antibiotics being giving in labour to help protect baby.

At 14 weeks cathryn underwent surgery to have a cervical stitch placed around the cervix to help aid with pre term labour, the couple also were involved int he C stitch trial to try and help others going through the same situation

20 weeks came with complications continuous contractions since the suture was placed.

At 21 weeks cathryn went into pre term labour, and their second Daughter was born with signs of life for 16 minuets.

After the birth and the start of saying goodbye, cathryn had to undergo yet surgery, to repair the cervix which was damaged when baby was delivered. Edith-Seren Lewis 08/08/2017.

After delivery cathryn was diagnosed with ? Postpartum preeclampsia, a condition causing elevated blood pressure.

The post mortem results showed a blood clot which contributed to Incompetent cervix.

It's been an awful experience so far, and one that we wouldn't wish on anyone to endure.

We are still in the healing period of loosing our second baby, but faced with the fact we may now never be able to have our rainbow due to financial reasons.

We have had a long discussion about should we try again, and after speaking to professionals there is one more procedure we can try which has been successful.

A uterus band- Trans abdominal suture.

we know that our journey will be hard again and it's something we have thought long and hard of, but if we reach the age where it was impossible to have children and reflected on the situation we feel we would feel guilty that we didn't take the last chance of our own family

On Friday8/12/2017 we are off the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, to see the lead consultant who specialises in the Transabdominal Suture, hopefully this will help us with answers and also help us one day become a Mummy & Daddy.

After speaking with the fertility centre, due to extra procedures we will need to aid us with the best outcome we need to save and fundraise for the treatment which would cost £12,950, which enables us to have a multi cycle round of IVF including the extras we require,

Sedated test of the catheter for transfer

    Endometrial scratch

    Another sedation for egg transfer

    Including extra medications

With this cycle we are entitled to to 3 cycles, but if it didn't work ( nonpositive pregnancy) then we would receive a refund of 70%

Which works out to be cheaper than one cycle with the extras we would need to include.

If it comes to the money ( 70%) being refunded we have thought about the legal aspects and where we would donate it too ( charity ).

We have made a promise to each other and a difficult one at that, that this would be the last attempt for us to have our own children, should our treatment not work we have said we still want to life with children, and we would consider Adoption in the future- but until then please if you can spare a £1 to help us to attempt at achieving our one and Only Dream which has already been snatched away twice.

Thank you for reading our story, we appreciate not everyone is able to help or wants to help to our fundraising, but if you wouldn't mind sharing our story we would be forever thankful ❤️

Update 4/1/2017 pre op assessment and bloods were take in order to arrange a date for the procedure for the TAC which is taking place on the 9/3/2017.
