Story
Meet Dedi <3. Our new rescue cat all the way from Macedonia!
He was part of a litter of kittens born to street cat; (who was also disabled with a malformed jaw), and rescued by a lady called Suze. Dedi was a very sick little kitten and when he was born . He had something twisted around his foot that had cut off the blood supply. His mother couldnt help him because of her jaw. He was too sick to receive a full amputation and they just removed his foot. This is how he came to us. He was very nervous and exhausted when he arrived. Slowly slowly, with lots of patience and love, Dedi has shown us that he reciprocates that love.
We are delighted that now Dedi has settled in and has become a very much loved member of our family: however we have encountered a few financial hurdles that we really didnt bargain for and now im now struggling to give Dedi what is needed to give him the quality of life he deserves.
As I mentioned before , when we adopted him we knew that we were getting a 'tripaws' cat and this never phased us at all! I know 3 legged cats can do very well. The adoption process was well under way when we realised that he actually had 4 legs but only 3 feet; and even then we didn't really understand the implications this would have.
As we kept him inside initially; we couldn't see a problem other than my concerns over him potentially having spine or hip pain later in life ( as he stooped down to walk on his 'stump' )
I took Dedi to two vets to get valued opinions about how to care for him properly. Neither were particularly concerned about his stump; but instead asked me to monitor how he got on outside. They said they would consider full amputation if the stump ulcerated and recommended I try and cover it with a sock or bandage. Well we tried all of this and it failed miserably. He's a young and curious boy (approaching 1 year) with an appetite for adventure; and is keen to follow in his big sisters footsteps, outside! I couldn't possibly confine him to the house! We live in a semi rural area and there's tonnes of exploring to do.
He fared well outside in the beginning but over the last 2 weeks I've noticed an open wound on his stump and its not healing at all. I believe the partial amputation that he's had is more of a hinderance than a full amputation would've been. I've also noticed his stump is very sensitive and he tries not to use it now. I just think his leg gets in the way of his happiness and I believe in my heart he would be more comfortable and less prone to infection , if the leg were to be fully removed; as is done normally in the UK.
I've enquired about costs. I was very shocked that the cost could be as high as £600!! Luckily I've since found a lovely vet who will do it for £450 .
I simply don't have this kind of money. The money I had saved has now gone on preparing for his arrival, additional vet checks and another medical procedure that needed doing.
So I'm appealing to friends, family and all cat lovers for some help towards the operation (which will be performed St Giles Animal Rescue)
Progress photos will be provided
Please can anyone help Dedi?
From his loving Furever Home
I'd like to give special thanks to everyone that has helped along the way so far. Namely Lynn from World Animal Friends, Melita, Meg and Suze from Macedonia, Kit Kats Transport, and last but not least the RSPCA welfare team who contributed towards neutering.

6 years agoHi All. I am delighted to give you all some good news. Firstly the RSPCA have kindly donated £115 towards my cause, thus bringing the target down to £285. That means that together we have raised an astonishing 70% of target so far. So guys and girls if we could ramp it up just bit more that would be amazing; as i've been able to now book Dedi's amputation!!! The procedure is due to be done on Monday 4th June. THis is also happens to be his first birthday 3> 3> . I do hope he forgives me!! Thank you all so much. More updates to follow xx

Hi. I am Michelle an I live in Somerset with my daughter. We both love animals; cats in particular. We've recently adopted Dedi, a kitten from Macedonia ! He joins our one-eyed lady Winky. They get along great but sadly Dedi needs some help that we hadn't bargained for!
