Rio Rugby will be hosting a second Favella Rugby Tournament this year (October). This year though rather than our boys coaching the children we will be supporting the development of the next generation of Rugby coaches from the people who live in the Favella's creating a truly sustainable model to carry out legacy on.
In 2015 we formed a partnership with Rio Rugby who had been supporting social projects within Rio's Favellas'. Rugbyfirsts raised funds to enable an U16's RFC to visit Rio and work alongside Rio Rugby to help deliver their social projects, train the young people in Rugby. The biggest part of the work was to provide an all day Rugby tournament where the young people of the favella's played on grass for the first time.
When we were there we fell in love with Rio and it's people. The vibrancy and enthusiasm of everyone and the sense of real community spirit. We were fortunate to be able to experience Favella life first hand which is something we will never forget.
To inspire you to help me raise funds for this project I am riding 200 miles to Paris in May this year actually to Paris 7's, back in 2015 our first fundraising project was an offride cycle ride to London 7's so it seemed to make perfect sense to cycle to Paris 7's!
