The homeless in Plymouth is wider than thought when we started at Christmas. We as unfunded volunteers work each evening 7 days a week to serve the deserving people. As well as homeless there are users who just can't afford to eat or buy a warm coat. We have relied on the public from which the support has been amazing. We are re-locating to a safer premises with more space for our users as well as ourselves. The space that we can afford is just a shell but will be fantastic. We are raising to build a safe environment inside needing building materials, warm seating area, a private room for those that need to talk. An office and kitchen/serving area. From 9.30 each evening we provide a hot drink, food and clothing. We listen to and help those who need it. We give them sleeping bags or find them a safe place to stay for the night. Some come in crying and shaking with the cold. Some fighting addictions that are struggling to overcome. We hand out underwear, toothpaste, razors, sanitary products, tissues and goody bags of chocolate, crisps etc.we don't get paid. We don't ask to be. We are there purely to help others who for many reasons are alone and hungry. In the day time we receive donations, collect and sort. We advertise our service for food/clothing donations. What started up as a small gesture fore Christmas has grown and we cannot let these people needing our support down. The majority say thank you we make a smile appear, that's all we need. Thanking the support of the people. This building is now important for our growing numbers looking to us for help. For us the ease of a safer place with a cooker, freezers water boilers, laundry area, and good seating area, cctv , computers and of course the safe building will make such a difference to our being able to continue the good work we started at Christmas.
