We are #SierraSymphony - Ola Sabak, Ela Aksoy, Hannah Dando and Chloe Airey - volunteers from the UK working together to provide improved water facilities for the positive development of communities in Kenema, Sierra Leone. It is every human right to have access to clean water, but 1 in 8 people do not have it. The other 7 can change that.

When living and volunteering for 3 months in Kenema on the Post-Ebola project with International Citizen Service (ICS) and Y Care International, we were devastated to see how many people had either no access to drinking water, or who drank contaminated water. We have created Sierra Symphony in support of goal 6 of the United Nations 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development: 'By 2030, everyone in the world will have access to drinking water.' There is sufficient fresh water on our planet to achieve this. But, due to bad economics or poor infrastructure, every year millions of people, most of them children, die from diseases associated with inadequate water supply.

We aim to raise awareness of this global issue which will not only contribute to a positive change in enhancing the lives of people in these communities, but also to improving poverty and a range of opportunities for young people, in terms of their education and employment. Without good health, people cannot receive an education to get a job and earn an income and so, tackling clean water facilities correlates with tackling poverty.

This is why by raising awareness about this issue we can tackle more than just one UN's sustainable development goals. It is the time for us to work together and make a positive change!
